I hope I like it Gene. The last two books I've read were really letdowns. Steve Steve: TODAY you are at the top of my list! Thanks, my man. Bet it makes Roy happy, if Liz is back yet checking the site. Let us know how the book resonates (or not). Gene

Not Fade Away arrived in yesterday's mail. The dustjacket cover is really cool. I think it's better appreciated when you have a copy of the book because an online picture of the dustjacket doesn't do it justice.

Just finished it Gene and enjoyed it much. You should do a novel on The Lost Patrol, that really intrigues me.

Bob: It's funny you mention that LP intrigues you. If Gord Rollo and several other writers, who'd read several of my stories that utilized material from my old USMC days--odd I can remember that long ago but not anything that happened yesterday--hadn't bugged me, I wouldn't have included those four chapters in NFA from back in the early sixties. Anyhow, Gord, too, has suggested I write a whole book based on USMC background. I could make it as credible as MATTERHORN, I suppose. We'll see. gene

I'm about half way through NFA and lovin' it. Just learned about the Lost Patrol, sounds like a pretty interesting story, indeed.

Think I mentioned to you one time that my Uncle Ray was a 30 year man in the USMC. End of WWII, Korea, etc. I remember some of his combat stories that kept me awake as a kid.

Yes, Bob, I remember you mentioning your Uncle Ray...but before Austin, maybe the first Killercon?
Anyhow, I forgot to ask how many folks noticed the photo of the original 45 record of the Crickets cut of Buddy Holly singing "Not Fade Away" inside the book? Pretty cool. Gene

Either that or WHC- SLC. I thought the record photo was a nice touch.

I was wondering what the record was about when I first started out, but it became clear by the time part two rolled around.
