Try "The New Daughter" with Kevin Costner. I know, I know, but he's not bad in it. It's based on a disturbing short by John Connolly. This movie flew in under the radar and went direct to DVD in May, I believe. Just a moody, slow atmospheric buildup with a dynamite climax! A real sleeper of a chilling movie!

Costner bores the crap out of me. I usually avoid anything he's in.
. . . but I've *got* to see this. Not only is it based on one of my favorite short stories by one of my favorite authors, I'm hearing some really good things about it!
Doubt I'll "blind buy" THE NEW DAUGHTER, but I'm definitely gonna have to rent this one . . . .

BEAR? That's the one about large, hairy gay men, right Jack? I don't think that was horror, Jack... Hey don't make any jokes that involve homosexuality, you'll be reprimanded...oh wait, that was another board...

Anyone seen Peacock with Cillian Murphy? It is mondo bizarre but also fascinating and wonderfully acted.
James Newman got me to start Six Feet Under and I am so hooked now that I don't want to do anything but find out what happens to these people next. I literally got just four hours sleep between two twelve hour shifts because I couldn't stop watching.

One I've seen several times in the past month and LOVE is THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL. I'm a huge fan of '70s horror, especially some of the more subtle stuff, and the director of this film conjures that vibe beautifully. Each time I watch it, I have a tough time believing that it was only shot a couple years ago. Beautiful cinematography, sound design, and a creepy, slow-burn plot that really heats up at the end. I know some complained that the first half was too slow, but I dug the hell out of it. T i thought house of the devil was fucking awesome. but i do have a think for old school horror recently. just the whole feel of the thing was like taking that retro trip down memory lane. i have recentlt seen (zombie virus on) Mulbery street, for fuck sake the UK dvd people have went and named it zombie virus on... when you guys in the US know it as Mulbery street. great film however if you was here and the uk and saw the title we have and you got no zombies i would be pretty fucked off.

Via House of the Devil, I loved teh first two-thirds of it, thought it perfectly captured that old school vibe, but the last third ruined it for me, went too over the top and lost the old school vibe and even look I thought.

Ah, yes! Billie and I watched this one a few months ago, and we were both really pleasantly surprised. Some truly creepy moments in it, and I loved the ending. I know some people were turned by some strange, unrealistic behavior by Costner's character in it, but I was able to overlook it and just enjoy the build up. Try "The New Daughter" with Kevin Costner. I know, I know, but he's not bad in it. It's based on a disturbing short by John Connolly. I couldn't agree more about Costner. It's funny, as I went through a period where I loved the guy (ROBIN HOOD, DANCES WITH WOLVES, UNTOUCHABLES), then, one day, it clicked...the guy can't act. He is basically Kevin Costner in every single movie he is in. There is shit going on around him that would make a grown man cry, and he just stands there like a cardboard cutout. His acting in the NEW DAUGHTER won't change your opinion of him, but his acting doesn't hurt the movie either. Costner bores the crap out of me. I usually avoid anything he's in. . . . but I've *got* to see this. I wanted to watch it because hey, tribute to 80s horror, I'M THERE! And it wasn't a total wash with me, they did such a good job the first two-thirds, I just think I wanted a better ending. I wouldn't recommend anyone NOT see it, it's still a worthwhile film. Not like the HORRIBLE film Autumn.

I really enjoyed MULBERRY STREET. I thought it had some cool ideas and was well done for a low-budget film. One I've seen several times in the past month and LOVE is THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL.
