I had a few off topic (book topic that is) that were spinning around in my head this morning. I decided that instead of opening ten different threads, why not just open one? Sounded good to me, but hopefully others will join in. SO! I want to know more about the people behind the horror. Who are you (share pics if you want)? What makes you tick? Anyone out there have any other types of obsessions/interests that they are passionate about? What lead you to where you're at now? I know there have been many similar threads to this before, but I still thought it could be fun. I like sharing and I like reading others inspiring stories. I'll start I guess since I'm the once asking. First off I have many, many other interests that go in many phases. I am a collector of books, dvds, cds, musical instruments and other items. Right now my greatest love of all is my Musicman 25th Anniversary Stingray HSS. This was my birthday present this year and I absolutely LOVE it. The tone! OH the tone! Here's a few pics in case anyone is interested. Pictures were taken by a friend of mine who is a pro. Obviously he couldn't control the dirtiness of my basement, so don't mind that. Me sitting on my bass amp playing for my daughter. Ok so that's my love right now. I've been playing bass for 13 years. Hopefully one day I'll be good at it. What makes me tick? Obviously horror. Horror is my passion and has been since I was a young pup suckling on my mother tit. Ok so maybe not that long, and I really wish I hadn't just wrote that, but whatever. I've been in love with all things horror since I was about 8 years old. My mother used to turn on channel 62 for me and they'd run all day marathons on Saturday/Sunday of horror movies. Anyone from the KC area knows what I'm talking about! So since then I've always been interested in all things related to the genre. Whether it be horror tattoos, t-shirts, books, movies...whatever. Now a little about myself. I just finished EMT school and am going into the Fire Fighter Academy in the next two weeks. I must love horror so much that I am putting myself in the mix of the real life horror. And let me tell you, I've seen some things already that would put most author's scenes to shame. Real life horror sucks, but I like helping people. A little over a year and ago I was going nowhere fast and was a mopey, drunk, fat loser (literally!). Now I've obtained more than I ever thought possible. I've become a mean (hahahah), lean, sober, love machine. No but really, I've lost a ton of weight, which dismisses the myth that all comic book fans are fatties. Well I've lost my train of thought. Now tell me about yourselves. Or ignore me. It's whatever.

Wow, Love the pic of your daughter watching you play, that is GREAT!!!
I loved horror since i was a kid, although growing up in a family with born-again Christians was rather difficult, funny thing is, as long as a movie didn't have sex in it, violence was allowed. Got into sci-fi, horror, and fantasy, reading stephen king, Dean Koonz, Piers Anthony, etc. Home schooled for all but two years of high school, I didn't date much, so in my freshman year at UConn I got set up on a blind date (at a bowling alley). Tom glanced at me as he went back into the arcade, apparently "checking me out" lol... I lent him a Dean Koonz book he hadn't read yet, so we sort of went back and forth on the phone for about a week. First time I went over to his house he had Super Nintendo and I was totally in love, plus (at that time) we both watched wrestling. Couple that with our mutual love of horror movies (anyone remember "USA Up all Night") and we basically fell head over heels. We started publishing with Wicked Karnival, branched off to Black Ink horror, and the rest is history. I will say it's totally cool to be married to someone that digs video games (we play side by side every night and sometimes even play in the same game together), loves horror movies (none of that romantic shit for me, thank you) and is an avid fan of horror literature. Add three gorgeous kids and one more on the way, and two dogs (a dopey yellow lab in love with Tom and a pit cross that is kick-ass), and that's my story. Of course I'm too internet stupid to add pics of me or the kids, so I'll have to have Tom do that later!!!

If all women were like Billie, maybe I wouldn't be gay. Okay, I probably still would be, but I'd perhaps feel like I was missing out.

Billie,
That is an awesome story! I wish my wife like horror and video games. She's a trooper and will occasionally try this or that, but she's just not interested.
Mark,
Your comment seriously made me LOL. Funny stuff man!

Well, I guess I'll introduce myself. I'm Mark Allan Gunnells. 35, a small town boy at heart I still live in my hometown of Gaffney in South Carolina. I have been with my partner Joel for 9 years. I've been a horror fan since I was a kid. I used to walk down to the local one-screen theater and see every new Friday, Nightmare and Halloween movie that came out (back when they pretty much let anyone in no matter their age as long as they had the price of admission). Stephen King first made me fall in love with horror fiction, but I've really branched out. Horror is not all I read, but it is my genre of choice. My first love.
I'm also a writer, and like with my reading, I can't stop turning back toward horror. I work mostly in the short form, but am trying to improve my skill with longer pieces. One thing I always strive to do with my fiction is just have fun, hoping that if I'm having fun writing the tale then the reader will have fun reading it.

I'm Jack, Jack Staynes. 32 years old living in the UK. I been into horror since way back when, I live that shit, I eat that shit and I breath that shit. I work in a bookstore which was great a few years ago, now it's just a shell of what it once was and so I've started my own ebay shop just to make sure that some of them folks over here in the Uk can get their hands on some of that good shit. I'm married with 2 cats. I've lived in Belgium and in India and seen a bunch of stuff that just ain't right. My main love in the horror genre is Siction, that's what I'm into and that's what I'm all about. Some awesome examples of Siction wuld be Edward Lee, Wrath James White, Charlee Jacob, Monica O'Rourke and Lucy Taylor. It's that shit that goes beyond, you know? That shit that when folks read it they say 'Oh, fuck no, that's just too much'. I'd throw a picture up here of myself but I just don't got the time right now. I always gots like 10 hours worth of shit to do and only 1 hour to do it in... and I'm falling behind so....

Well, where to begin. I'm grew up a Navy brat. Spent most of my childhood in either Florida, Maine, or Virginia. Went to college in L.A. to get away from the East Coast (USC baby! And no probation jokes, motherfuckers). Graduated with a degree in Psychology. Got commissioned in the US Navy and spent the next four years as an Officer on board your taxpayer ships. Got to see a lot and do a lot and some stuff I can't talk about (not kidding).
Got out in 2005. Worked some odd jobs before becoming a defense contractor. 2005 was also the year I started writing seriously. And by seriously I mean writing and subbing. I used to write here and there but never let anyone read anything (except my future wife).
Now it's 2010 and I've sold some stories, novellas, chapbooks, and a novel. Not too bad. Not too bad at all.
