Just finished this one up last night at work. Great, GREAT collection. I had already read a couple of the stories, but the new ones were really good. Very good. I can't pick which one I liked best though.
Keep 'em comin', Gene-o. :-)

Thanks, Chris, appreciate the remarks and feedback. I think I mention my favorites. Although the new Tenderloin story in the limited and deluxe hard backs coming from Dark Regions Press (soon I think) is pretty good. "Black Tar/Red Alien." And the collaborative tale in MEAN STREETS, "Lord Rat," is also a 'Loin story. You already know the novel NOT FADE AWAY is an expansion of the short story, "The Apotheosis of Nathan McKee." So there is quite a bit of 'Loin lore floating around. Some folks like this gritty urban stuff, others favor my Cal Wild stuff. So it goes, Gene

I really, very much like the Tenderloin stuff--you're gonna have to explain what the Tenderloin is to me one day though. I get it, kind of, but I need explanation.
The Cal Wild world though...that's the shit of dreams, man. Every moment I spend in the Wild is a moment I either grow older or younger and either way is exhilarating. Pretty much every story gets me in a headlock. :-)
LORD RAT was pretty damn cool. 5150 was a stand-out as well. BALANCE also did the number.
Man, fuck it. It was all good. lol

You come west and I'll take you into the Tenderloin. One block on Turk, where all the porn theaters first operated, is supposed to be the most dangerous, crime-infested in the city. At the same time parts of the 'Loin harbor a growing immigrant population, mostly SE Asia, so you see lots of kids on the streets...only during the daytime. Gav (my son) and I took Gord there on a visit, but he wasn't keen on exploring at night. You need to be a little drifty to travel there at night, especially after midnight when the heavy buying and selling goes on. Gav used to get up at 2am and walk his girlfriend home at night when she finished her waitress shift elsewhere. Only concern I ever saw him have when he lived there. Gene

On the 28th of February Dark Regions Press will begin taking pre-orders for the hardback limited of TOT. New wraparound cover by Wayne Miller, inside illustrations of the tenderloin by Erin Wells, additional introduction by Joe McKinney on place as character, and an additional new story "Black Tar/Red Alien," that I think is as good as the original eight. $45. They’re having a giveaway of a free book at the site. Thanks for the support, Gene

Dark Region Press announced the release of the two hard back editions of TASTE OF TENDERLOIN today. Lots of new stuff in these HBs, including a new Tenderloin story. I think "Black Tar/Red Alien" may be as good as the original eight. Gene

Unfortunately, everywhere Gord goes at night, he sees haziness at these things. So we need a little more definition here, John. Or maybe Bob will be clearer of eye. We'll see.

Any haze observed will be attributed to you, John.
