Any other fans of this project on here?
I can't get enough of their CD Black Ribbons!
Yes, it's by *that* Shooter Jennings -- Waylon's son -- but this ain't no country album. In fact, it's a weird cross between . . . hmm . . . maybe Pink Floyd, E.L.O., Nine Inch Nails, Black Sabbath, Monster Magnet, and Tool, with just a touch of the Allman Brothers?
Black Ribbons is a haunting concept album about the last free radio broadcast in America before Big Brother shuts it down, a story about the death of the First Amendment in a nation that has become a police state.
And get this: None other than Stephen King makes a guest appearance on Black Ribbons, playing the role of doomed DJ "Will o' the Wisp", reaching out to listeners between tracks with his last-gasp screw-the-government message . . . a message that, after tonight, dies along with his signal.
Like I said, I can't stop listening to it. If you guys haven't heard this disc, you really need to check it out (my favorite songs, if you wanna dig around on the 'Net first and sample some of the best before you buy: "Summer of Rage", "All of This Could Have Been Yours", "Lights In the Sky", and "The Illuminated").
Highly, highly recommended. I never thought a day would come that I would claim to be a fan of Shooter Jennings (I absolutely *loathe* country music!), but I've been so infatuated with Black Ribbons since I picked it up a month or so ago that I bought tickets last week to see Shooter Jennings & Hierophant in September, a week after my birthday. Can't wait!
