I just got word not long ago that stories by PAUL BENS JR. ("The Beheld" - from DD #16) and WESTON OCHSE ("Big Rock Candy Mountain" - from DD #16) have made the preliminary ballot for the BRAM STOKER AWARDS this year. The members will now vote on narrowing it down to the final 4 or 5 stories from the initial 12 or 13. Congratulations to both authors and best of luck to you! We've had a few stories nominated over the years, but never quite made it farther than the first round. I'll be crossing my fingers!!! Here are the links to both of the stories posted on the author's respective websites for anybody interested in checking them out and/or for voting consideration: www.smashwords.com/books/view/36138 www.westonochse.com/big%20rock%20candy%20mountain.pdfI also found out regular contributor CODY GOODFELLOW (DD #11, #15, and #16) has also gained a spot in Ellen Datlow's excellent YEAR'S BEST HORROR for 2010 with his story from THE BLEEDING EDGE - "At the Riding School". This was a special Hardcover anthology Dark Discoveries Co-Editor/Art Director JASON V. BROCK and DD contributor WILLIAM F. NOLAN put together and Jason published himself earlier this year. It featured new and previously unpublished fiction by RAY BRADBURY, RICHARD & R.C. MATHESON, NOLAN, GEORGE CLAYTON JOHNSON, JOHN SHIRLEY, JOE LANSDALE, GARY BRAUNBECK, NANCY KILPATRICK, EARL HAMNER, DAN O'BANNON, STEVE RASNIC TEM, NORMAN CORWIN and many others. I believe Jason still has a handful of copies of the trade edition left if you haven't yet picked up this excellent and diverse collection!
