I was contacted by a professor from the Applied Arts division of Texas State University. He wants me to come as a guest speaker to talk about the book arts.
I'm flattered and scared to do it! lol Public speaker, I ain't!
I can't make up my mind if I should or not.
Ahhhhhhh, my brain hurts.

Just picture everyone naked... Wait...that might be a bit awkward.
Chris, do not pass this up. Take a shot while the shot's there to take. Spread the book love.

There will be college girls there, right? Do it! There's your answer! Seriously, it sounds like it would be beneficial - go for it.

Chris, that sounds awesome! Public speaking was not my forte, either, until I was forced to do it as part of my job. The main thing to remember is to just be yourself; those spectators haven't a clue what you do, so they think you're the expert and are looking up to you for advice and insight. Just relax, be yourself and wow them!

Hey, Chris, you *are* the expert there. Take something to handle, keep your hands busy. The worst part is the lead-up. Once you start you'll be fine. I've played ball in college, and boxed at a pretty good level--speaking in front of a group is less nerve wracking than either of those gigs. Just remember they do want you, really *want* you; if not they they wouldn't have asked. Sic 'em, bud. Gene

haha Thanks, guys. I'm playing a little email ping pong with the prof. to try and get it set up. I'll probably do it.

I say don't pass it up. Once you get talking it'll start flowing.

You will be in your element so it will get really natural and easy for you.
I think you should set up a webcast and get us all a link.

Maybe you'll get an apprentice out of the experience. You are truly an artist, so I'm glad you're taking the plunge. How big of a classroom will it be taking place in? Maybe you can use slides. The whole thing sounds pretty cool. Good luck and have fun!

Depending on their definition of "book arts," take some photos of those books you "rebuilt" along with the finished product as well as a sample or two of your lettered creations. Be yourself. You'll be fine.

Thanks for the compliments, guys. I appreciate it. :-)
I'm not sure how big the class is yet, I asked in the last email, but I haven't heard back just yet. I'll probably take everything I have for samples. Unfortunately, I don't have one of everything I've built, but I have quite a bit. Enough, I think. Plus the basic tools and such.
It's starting to feel less scary and a little more like fun. :-)
