I have a unique opportunity to put together a book of short stories by Ray Bradbury for production as an audiobook. Most of his novels have already been done, but there are a lot of stories that people are less familiar with. What I'm looking for is a collection of stories by Ray that everyone wouldn't be so familiar with that they yawn...something new...some old stuff, some obscure stuff, and some of your favorites. Discussion here would be good, but if you have specific suggestions, I'd appreciate e-mail also.... publisher AT Crossroadpress DOT com

You've got to include "The Other Foot," one of my all time favs but one I don't see mentioned often. It's not only a kick-ass and well constructed short story, but it is one that has a lot of intelligent stuff to say about racism, written during a time where white men weren't really talking about the subject.

I've read that numerous times and never tire of it. The Man was also cool.

Is it dark fantasy, scifi, or more staight fantasy themed? If more horror-oriented than i'd pick some of the lesser known dark tales not collected a whole lot (or at all) like "The Handler", "The Traveller", "Interim", "The Night", "The Trunk Lady", "Heavy Set", "The Trapdoor", "Subterfuge", "The Piper", "The Dead Man", "The Black Ferris", "Corpse Carnival", "Reunion", "The Maiden", "Bang, You're Dead!" and "The Night Sets". A few of these are from the original Dark Carnival and with the exception of Gauntlet putting out a special edition of it, Ray hasn't let these be reprinted too much - or at all. I like his first horror story ever published too (in Weird Tales in 1942) "The Candle" but Ray said he hates it and it's never been reprinted (Henry Kuttner wrote the ending for it to complete it). Personally, i'd love to put out a collection of some of Ray's early stories in their original form as I like them, but Bill Nolan has told me Ray would never go for it. - James www.darkdiscoveries.com
