So far I've read the tales in "The Collected Tales of the Baja Express," the story in Sideshow Exhibits and Doc Good's Traveling Show...but I wanted to ask, are there any stories in this series that take place primarily inside one of the Shields?

John's right. Down the time line are a couple of stories and a novelette, taking place mostly inside a Shield: "Nostalgia," THE HUNGRY SKULL, "Down on the 01 Level." "On the North Slope of Little Agony" almost a novelette is a off-world tale and will appear along with SKULL and 01 Level in the Sideshow Press release CHRONICLES OF THE DOUBLE SPARROW. Part of the afterward of Sparrow is a grouping of near future and far future Cal Wild tales and listing them in chronological order. Gene

Cool, I'm very interested to see more of life inside the Sheild.
Can someone tell me what CalWild releases there are already out? I want to make sure I have them all.

Mark: Did you get the novella THE CONFESSIONS OF ST. ZACH? Some folks figured it to be the beginning of Cal Wild. It's sold out from the publisher. "Down on the 01 Level" was published in Science Fiction age, but it's tweaked for Tom & Billie's Double Sparrow. "On the North slope of Little Agony" appeared in a previous collection of mind that I had to shut down before it sold very many copies: THE GRAND STRUGGLE. Trying to remember what you *do* have, and I think that is it. Of course the Cal Wild three book sequence I'm working on will pretty much tie everything together conveniently. Gene

I have The Baja Express, Doc Good's, Jade, and the story in Sideshow Exhibits. No, I never got Confessions, and now it's sold out? Damn. Any chance of a reprint in the future? I'll be sure to get Doube Sparrow when SSP puts it out. I'm interesting in finding anything CalWildish I can get my hands on.

Well, the book I'm working on for the Cal wild sequence is an expansion of the novelette THE CONFESSIONS OF ST. ZACH. Three sections in novel, first section doubles the wordage of the novelette. The book is a prequel to INDIGO and will solidly tie into it. The sequel, CAL WILD will be all the stories in chronological order, tied together with little snips of narrative. Maybe an original piece ending the sequence . We'll see. Mark: Write Liz at Bad Moon Books--it's possible they have a PC of THE CONFESSIONS OF ST. ZACH. Gene

I've communicated with Liz in the past, let me see if I still have her email address somewhere. Or I could just wait until your expanded version of The Confessions of St. Zach comes out.
My favorite thing about this future you've created is that you don't go into great detail about what happened to the world, and as for this new society you don't just "tell" the reader how it works, but you let the details come out organically through the story. Stellar stuff.

I have The Baja Express, Doc Good's, Jade, and the story in Sideshow Exhibits. Glad this thread got started. I've gathered the four books mentioned above. It's my understanding that they are listed in the order that they should be read. Are the stories in CHRONICLES OF THE DOUBLE SPARROW set in a period after these books? I felt that the novella THE CONFESSIONS OF ST. ZACH was excellent, so I'm looking fwd to this series. Jan

Jan: Yes the chronological order is correct up there. And then right after TGNSWR, will be an inside the Shield story, "Nostalgia." Then the three tales in CHRONICLES OF THE DOUBLE SPARROW will be in a more distant future, one of those stories in a penal colony, off planet. The chronological sequence of Cal Wild stuff is broken into near future and far future and listed in order for those who are tracking Cal Wild as a developing character. For the rest of us, each story can be read on its own, perhaps even being unaware that there exists another tale in the sequence. The three books in the sequence will be THE BURDEN OF INDIGO, THE CONFESSIONS OF ST. ZACH, and CAL WILD, perhaps best read in that order. ZACH is 60% finished. Gene

This just in today, and has something to do with Mark's question of stories inside the Shields. Also, it's an inexpensive--as compared to a lettered edition--way to read "Nostalgia."
"Nostalgia" is the Cal Wild bonus story included in the lettered edition of DOC GOOD'S TRAVELING SHOW, coming soon from Bad Moon Books. It's an inside the Shield story, next in chronological order after THE GREAT NORTHERN SWEET WATER RAID. For those who might not want to wait and haven't order the lettered Doc Good's, "Nostalgia," is included in a slightly revised form in the anthology DARK FUTURES, a trade paperback. Thanks, Gene
