part of me wonders if I helped push this... I have only ever canceled 2 orders... and both were a case where i had ordered the same book twice and i simply canceled the second copy. That said just yesterday I was looking at the schedule for books and Thunderstorms 2 elemental HC's are due out at pretty much the same time... that's a $160... and money is tight right now, its con season and I'm running through some bills... I thought to myself, shit i should see if I can combine those two orders and start a layaway... and if i can pay it off faster I will... seems to me a pretty good idea right? I guess not cause I was told that holding on to the book for 3 months would be too long a time... now i have to face the fact that I pretty much will HAVE to cancel one of the books because I can't flex my budget enough... unless one comes out in sept and the other comes out in october... again we' NEVER have a clear date for a book, they always come out weeks or months later. So anyway I need to rethink my budget cause I don't like ot cancel and I like to support the mall... sigh. See, this is such a shame! Good honest buyers are going to miss out on GREAT fiction and GREAT productions because of the layaway being taken away. One of my previous layaways I had: Sex,Death&Honey House Of Fallen Trees Valley Of The Dead The Nocturne Now that is a great way to buy books, no way could I afford to buy them all at once..

Yeah, without layaway I would never have been able to get Gene O'Neill's The Collected Tales of the Baja Express, and I just hate to think I could have missed out on that masterpiece.

Here's a message I just sent to Shane.
Shane, as a long-time customer who spends many thousands of dollars at the Horror Mall every year, I was very disappointed to see that layaway payments have been stopped. I found this a very convenient way to manage my budget and I feel that I am being penalised for the abuse of others. You seem to be pandering to the lowest common denominator.
It was particularly galling to see one of your approved store owners commenting on a message-board that he was fed up with providing interest-free loans to customers. In fact, three of my layaways totalling over $700 were paid off to the same store 5 months ago and I am still waiting for those books to be published. Perhaps I should start charging him interest! Admittedly these book delays aren't the fault of the seller, that is down to another of your "veted" store owners who turned out to be incompetent and had to sell his imprint to Larry Roberts.
You say that the Horror Mall is doing well and growing, and I am pleased for your success, but sadly I think the level of service to loyal customers is being sacrificed in the pursuit of new business and increased profits (just like one of those conglomerates you despise so much). But as your chosen bookseller also stated, he doesn't care if the Horror Mall loses old customers due to these changes because for every one lost four new ones are signing up. Not an unexpected attitude, just depressingly indicative of the way the Mall is changing.
No question to answer here really, I just wanted to put my feelings on record.

Great message Jason. I want the Mall to succeed, but I do feel like in the pursuit of success they are willing to sacrifice certain customers that they dont' view as cost efficient.

I love the fact that these options are back. I was starting to get worried on how I would get all of the lettered editions that I want.
I think its great that Shane, Larry and Roy all met to discuss this situation.
Hopefully, this will discourage people from abusing the system.

Wow, what a difference a few hours make. While I don't want to take all the credit, plaudits will be accepted for a brief time.
