I've always had a fascination with murder mystery dinner events, and several years ago I decided I wanted to write a story about one that goes horribly awry. I had the beginning of an idea, but it only went so far and then I wasn't sure what happened next. I figured I'd just start writing and maybe when I got to that point, the story would reveal to me what happened next. Sometimes it really does work out that way. Not this time. I got to that certain point and hit a wall, not sure where the story went from there. It was a shame, as I did like what I had. Then along came Benjamin Kane Ethridge. We met here on Facebook actually, and he approached me about maybe doing a collaboration. I instantly thought of this fragment I had and asked if he'd read it, see if he had any ideas of where we could take the story. And thus LOCKED ROOM MISERY was born. (And I can't take credit for that title, that was all Ben.) The process of working with him on this was incredible. The man has major talent, he doesn't have a Stoker award sitting on his mantel for nothing. (Okay, I don't know where he keeps it, but I'm imagining the mantel.) I feel like I learned a great deal about the craft from him being willing to work with me on the novella. And I'm thrilled that it finally is out in the world. I hope people enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed working on it with Ben. Locked Room Misery
