Okay, let me be the one to pop this board's cherry since I am an avid Newman fan. Hard to believe that maybe a year ago I hadn't read any of his work. I was talking on The Haunt--the old HOrror Mall forum--about my love of coming of age tales and looking for suggestions. No less than a dozen people told me I HAD to read Midnight Rain. So I did, and I loved it. Such great characterization, such a wonderful job capturing an era in time. I then got his short story collection, People Are Strange, and found him to be master at the short form as well. Then followed The Wicked which was a wonderfully fun old school supernatural horror, and the two co-authored chappies Church of Dead Languages and Love Bites (the former I found okay but a bit lacking, but the latter was nothing but enjoyment from start to finish). And now I'm totally hooked, I must get everything James puts out.

James Newman's fiction was the catalyst for me to decide to start Thunderstorm Books.

I think the man is so much more talented than he gets credit for.

Oh, and he's super humble too, which is a plus.

Finished The Forum a few days ago. Simply loved it! Great tale with a neat twist toward the end. Well done, James!

My Newman reading also started with MIDNIGHT RAIN, and set him up as a must read author. And not sure if James remembers, but I do recall, having had a few drinks, rambling to the man at WHC 05 about how great Midnight Rain was. Not my finest moment I gotta say, but the alcohol had loosened the lips.
And I still owe this forum an ANIMOSITY update. Let me try and get that for y'all. Having had the pleasure of working with James a little on that novel, I'm equally looking forward to its release.

I think Animosity has the potential to really elevate James to the higher echelon of modern writers. I am so eager for people to read this book and be blown away.
In the meantime, The Forum is on its way to me as we speak, and I'm very excited for the release of Revenge Flick! It's a good year for Newman. (And not the Seinfeld character.)

No less than a dozen people told me I HAD to read Midnight Rain. So I did, and I loved it. Been looking for awhile and finally got a copy of Midnight Rain at a used book store just outside Cleveland. Will read it next month.

Just want to add to these sentiments after reading Revenge Flick - the cool style seems effortless - the mark of great writing in my opinion.
