My favourite author of the month is Kylie Chan, an Aussie who pens SpecfFic based on Chinese mythology. Excellent Gods vs. demons martial arts action, and one of the main protagonists is Xuan Wu, the Chinese God of Martial Arts...now there is a premise that offers (and delivers) some serious action. Her first trilogy, the Dark Heavens cycle, is fantastic. GNB
Apart from that, I recommend, as always, Richard Laymon, Joe R. Lansdale, Robert R. McCammon and Jack Ketchum, every single book by all of them. And R. A. Salvatore (fantasy writer) for excellent action/combat scenes and a great narrative.

Everyone should be reading Joe R. Lansdale. Period. No debate. READ HIM!
James Newman, Brian Knight, and Gene O'Neill are not only ridiculously talented, but they are all true gentlemen.

I would recommend Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy. There are horrific scenes in these books that rival anything Thomas harris has written. gene

I have a read everything list that consists of
Edward Lee-this relationship started with The Bighead. After speaking with Edward online, I fell in love with the man's work. Jack Ketchum-The Girl Next Door and Lost. Need I say more. Chuck Palahniuk-Rant. Holy shit Rant is probably one of the best books I've ever read. Fucking loved it. Also loved Snuff and many others. William Ollie-The Damned. Top book read of 2009. Amazing stuff. Greg Gifune-Everything I've read from this man is pure gold. John Everson-The 13th was absolutely amazing! Brian Keene-Keene can be hit or miss sometimes for me, but overall he is a damn good author. I mean come on! What can beat The Rising? Or Castaways? Richard Laymon-I believe to this day that Laymon could not write a bad novel. I haven't read all of his works, but I've read a lot and I stand by this statement. Wrath James White-Wrath has a very powerful voice and can write a wallop of a novel.
And so on and so on.

My favorite of all time: Joe R. Lansdale.
Other recent faves: John Connelly, and I can't recommend Gillian Flynn highly enough! Can't wait for her new one. DARK PLACES was cool, but SHARP OBJECTS blew me away -- that one might have been the best debut novel I've read in 15 years. I read it, immediately started all over and read it a second time when I was done.
Another recommendation for a book I really dug: Just finished David Morrell's THE SHIMMER. Loved it. I hate to sound cliche, but I "couldn't put it down". Morrell's pretty hit-or-miss with me, I've only loved about half of his stuff I've read, but this one was a fantastic thriller based on some real-life phenomena. Check it out!
