THE ART OF WORDS & ART TO ART
The Art of Words is a facebook group that inspired a new forum, just beginning its life in this crowded domain known as the internet. It's not specifically horror as such (although it's certainly not NON-horror), and with me there there is a definite dark side...
Plus we love zombies...
It's not elitist, it's designed to be friendly and welcoming to writers and artists of all skill levels and career achievements, as well as other industry professionals and those who just like to read good fiction and peruse inspired artwork.
Focusing on the short fiction form, which we all know is the best ground-level entry point to the literate world, no matter what genre you write in, this site allows your creative juices to simmer and flow. Writers with low publication credits or nothing published at all find it much easier to get acceptance letters/emails from shorts submitted to anthologies and magazines than trying to peddle a novel or novella sized piece.
In spite of this, many writers have trouble writing short stuff.
The Art of Words gives exercises in the short form, from images, phrases and headlines taken from around the world, allowing the writer to work around a set theme or inspiration. These shorts are then posted in the appropriate threads, allowing others to critique their work.
As always, there will be a load of readers who say things like 'Wow, I loved it' or 'Rad, man'.
These sorts of critiques are fulfilling and a great boost to the ego, yet in the end are basically useless as points of growth or learning.
We need the critiques that point out where we went wrong; where we failed to engage, where our characters or dialogue are unrealistic or clunky.
We need constructive criticism.
This forum will provide that, slowly at first, but I promise to read everything posted there, and others will as well.
There's a Writer's Lounge sub-forum that incorporates individual areas for writers as requested.
We plan to have published and renowned authors, editors and publishers joining up soon.
Pick their brains...you never know just what you might find.
Got a question about style, layout or submission guidelines? Ask it and get a serious answer. Help others out with their questions.
There's also the Coffee Break room, a place to just hang out and chat with like-minded others about anything at all.
Soon there will be a chat-room facility added, allowing us to organise live chats with authors, editors and publishers. These WILL happen.
This could be a damn fine resource and community for writers/editors/publishers and readers.
Check out The Art of Words. There are only a small number of members, but we all gotta start somewhere, don't we?
ALL YOU VISUAL ARTISTS OUT THERE!
The forum The Art of Words also incorporates Art to Art, another Facebook page that allows visual artists in all mediums to create pieces as inspired by quotes, headlines, short fiction and other images.
Inclusive of all artists, whatever your skill level, you just need the passion to create...
