Just finished Coven by Edward Lee. I'm not quite sure how I feel about this Lee. It felt like I've already read this story from him. Not sure why. Nothing too special or original about it. I did enjoy it but it wasn't excellent like some of his other stuff.
Going to start something new. Not sure what yet. I was going to start Sideshow, but I might save that one for later. Not sure. Got to think about it.

I loved Tom Reamy's writing too. He was taken from us far too soon.

Oh, wow, Bill mentioned Tom Reamy. Really interesting, his career, and especially his short stories. SAN DIEGO LIGHTFOOT SUE one of my favorites. Because he wasn't on the scene--publishing that is--he's faded from fan consciousness. But he was good. Died like all writers hope for, with his boots on at his typewriter. BLIND VOICES showed promise, but obviously needed polishing. Reamy is worth looking up. Gene San Diego Lightfoot Sue - one of my cherished treasures is a mint hardcover edition, bought it from Barry Levin's bookstore in Santa Monica about 10 years ago. Brilliant collection.

Bookie: That is indeed a treasure! I've re-read some of the stories in that collection half a dozen times, including the title novelette, one of my favorite stories. A story that was ahead of itself as far as the older woman--much younger man love story aspect. Gene

Finished Blue Dragon By Kylie Chan.
A somewhat anti-climax for the trilogy, although all the boxes have been checked: Protagonist = fucked enough to start another trilogy Antagonist = dead, but enough questions and cohorts remain to fuel the next three books.
Started Patient Zero now...great stuff, so far

A story that was ahead of itself as far as the older woman--much younger man love story aspect. Gene Blind Voices was a great story, kind of a Lansdale sort of feel to it... the writing wasn't as smooth as somebody like Lansdale, but the story was so good I told that internal editor to shut the hell up, and he actually did--Mark Gunnells would dig this book... I got it for a penny and 3.99 shipping from amazon.

Blind Voices is one of my ALL TIME favorite novels. Reamy passed too soon for sure.

Started Neverland by Clegg, mostly due to Mark's rave reviews about it! Thirty-some pages into it and it is very good! Well, finally finished this tale. Kind of mixed feelings overall about it. Nicely-written but over-the-top hallucinatory book. I'd characterize it as a "poor man's version of Shadowland." Not that it's lousy, just that it is somewhat derivative but good in its own right.

I'm disappointed you didn't enjoy it more razz. I loved it. I do see the Shadowland comparison, but in many ways I saw Neverland as more accessible, but then I do sometimes find Straub's writing to be offputtingly distant, as if he has built a glass wall between me and the story and I'm seeing it but not IN IT.

Just finished Shrewsbury's Stronger than Death and a comic adaptation of Lansdale's The Drive In. Taking a slight break from horror and turning back to epic fantasy and reading Erikson's Memories of Ice, vol 3 of Malazan Book of the Fallen. (just over 1000+ pages this will keep me for a while).
