sgambino, it's a bit overly bloated as much of King's work is and there were some awfully convenient things that he brought in at the end that I wish he'd set up earlier in the book (God knows he had plenty of time), but it was a really fun book that did not lose my interset for a second, and at its length that's saying something.

Has anyone read King's Under The Dome? Was it any good? I started losing interest around the 1/4 point, sad to say. By the time I got about halfway through, I put it down completely and didn't pick it back up. J.N.

That's the risk an author takes when writing such a looooong story. If you don't have your teeth fully in the reader pretty early on, you're bound to lose them. ~C

Under the Dome wasn't his best recent effort--for my money that is Duma Key--but it has that real old school King flavor that first made me fall in love with him as a storyteller.

I read Under the Dome in about two days, I just wanted to get through it. The Stand is actually my favorite King book to date, and I think lately he's trying to recapture the spirit of that book with others. I think the problem I had with Dome is that I didn't care much about the characters like I wanted to...at times with King he just kills characters off and it's like, What the heck was that!?!? I liked Duma Key more, actually, because instead of having twenty different people to follow, you have this one guy to watch. Dome had a lot of charcters to keep track of...maybe that was part of the problem.

I just finished Brian Knight's Feral. Solid, enjoyable book. Not my favorite Knight. I felt the pacing was a bit off in the middle--then again, I was going through some pretty stressful shit at work at the time which probably impacting my reading and colored my perceptions. Also, the ending left me wanting a bit more. Still, highly entertaining and further proof that Knight is a great writer who deserves even greater success in the future.

Oh, wow, Bill mentioned Tom Reamy. Really interesting, his career, and especially his short stories. SAN DIEGO LIGHTFOOT SUE one of my favorites. Because he wasn't on the scene--publishing that is--he's faded from fan consciousness. But he was good. Died like all writers hope for, with his boots on at his typewriter. BLIND VOICES showed promise, but obviously needed polishing. Reamy is worth looking up. Gene

Started Neverland by Clegg, mostly due to Mark's rave reviews about it! Thirty-some pages into it and it is very good!
