I just finished this one today and must say I absolutely loved it. It was a horror fan's dream, totally riveting story. Yes, I knew the cop was the guy right from the get-go, but I think that is because as a writer I'm always looking for that sort of thing. I thought it was a great tale, and here's what I liked about the ending. James didn't make the twist that Ed was a serial killer as well all this time. That would have been too easy, too "on the nose." I like that his secret was that he'd found the body and told no one, spending time with it as if it were his girlfriend. I thought that was a more interesting way to go. I really loved this one, wished it had been longer because I wanted more, but I definitely think it was a terrific, kick ass piece of fiction.

I agree with everything you said, except I felt that it was exactly the right size. It was a quick fun read with some cool surprise twists. It'll be on my 2010 Best Reads list.
Since this is a Signature Series, the author and artist need to be in sync. Although I enjoy Jill Bauman's art, she has a tenancy to start with the author's story, but then builds on it to tell her story instead of the author's. I've noticed this with other books too.

I guess I just wanted to know more about this forum, and who was "for real" and who wasn't. Hell, he could revisit the site in future stories if he wanted to, it's just ripe with possibilities.
I loved Jill Bauman's artwork for Sandman, and there were some good pieces here, but overall it wasn't my favorite artwork.

Thanks for the kind words, guys! Glad you liked it. This is the most FUN piece I've ever written (I particularly had a blast with the twisted humor in it), so I'd glad to see that shows in the finished product.
I'm with you on Jill's artwork, BTW, Mark. I'm a big fan, but I didn't think this was her strongest work. In fact, I was a tad disappointed with most of the interior illustrations -- only because I know she can do much better. Still, I think it's a great-looking book overall!

The elongated design I wasn't expecting, but it was distinctive and interesting. And James, I could feel you having fun while reading this one, and I think those are always the best reads.

Just finished the book last night and loved it. I liked the way it ended and the way you left it open. Is it a possibility for a The Forum 2, following Ed as a serial killer and his posting on the web.

As I've said before, I think the possibilities for that site are endless. I'd definitely like to know more about the people who post there.

I read The Forum a week ago and mirror Mark's thoughts. A great fun read that went by all too quickly.

Read it yesterday. Nice tight story. Well written and just the right length. Great twist.
