Jason: I actually wrote each book, story, novella to stand alone. So it really makes little difference, unless you have a very literary bent and see the place, Cal Wild, as the major character and want to chart its chronological development. Either way works, I think. Thanks, Gene Agreed. You can read Cal Wild in any order you want. Every story is a story in it's self. Chronological development is something that really interest me so I can't wait for the collection.

John: It's funny you mentioned WHITE TRIBE. Kay and I spent the weekend hiking up in that part of Northern California. Still wild and wooly in places. But sadly more of the little towns, to me anyhow, seem to be spiritually damaged by the recession. Garberville is very close to the Benbow Inn(which seems to be doing well), and this little town has no schools anymore. Apparently there just is no work. Sad. One of my favorite areas. We may have to do a sequel to LOST TRIBE some day. Gene Ever since I read your description of the...lost coast? I needed to visit it. And one day I hopefully will. It is ashame that such a grand sounding place should be so effected by the economy. Places like that need to be preserved somehow.

John: This part of California is going to be hit harder if a piece of legislation passes. I mentioned in LOST TRIBE that the biggest cash crop in Mendocino and Humboldt counties is marijuana. It's possible that it will be legalized by this proposed legislation. If so it will further impoverish both counties. Just as the explosion of Indian Casinos in Northern California has directly impacted the economy of Reno. So it goes, Gene

For someone who wants a rare collector's item, Horror Mall has one copy of a hardback copy of THE BURDEN OF INDIGO. Don't know where it came from, as I think less than 50 were printed and sold along with the trade paperback. I'm guessing that is a good price too. If you collect, check it out. Gene

I'm very glad I utilized layaway to get a hardcover copy because that book is brilliant.

Mark: This isn't COLLECTED TALES OF THE BAJA EXPRESS (264 or something like that copies printed and sold of BAJA). This is a stand alone copy of INDIGO with a kind of surreal cover by GAK, not the map cover on BAJA. Gene

John: did your daughter find time to finish INDIGO? And you might tell her that the book of ST ZACH has a first section expansion of the novelette that doubles plus the wordage of the original story. Gene

Gene I don't believe she did. She doesn't get a lot a time for herself. 3 kids and just about full time work doesn't leave her much.

Talked to her today. Definitely liking it even though she not really finding the time. The couple times she tried she finding it hard to put down.
