Okay, so one of our fellow book hounds, etaylor, contacted me a few weeks ago and asked if I could bind up a couple of books for him. He had a couple of Ed Lee books in soft cover that he really wanted to have in hard cover. The two books in question were, Brain Cheese Buffet and Bullet Through Your Face, both from Deadite Press. I accepted the challenge. I ordered up a copy of each book in soft cover and a couple of weeks later, I ripped off the covers after I scanned the cover art. I printed out the scans and added them as frontispieces to each book, added some French parchment to the front and back of each text block and added colored and textured endsheets to finish them off. I then built two new covers using burgundy leather and stamped them in gold along the spines. Here's what they looked like afterward-- I thought they turned out quite well. Now, every time I've done one of these book modifications, I've always wanted to do something with the original covers that I ripped off. I usually end up throwing them away, but I just hate doing that...seems like a waste to me. So, I had an idea of a way to put them to use since they were still in good shape after the whole rippin' 'em off thing. I built some light weight storage boxes for them...the design I refer to as a "dust envelope". (You may remember me doing something similar for Dust of the Dead from Sideshow Press.) I attached the original covers and spines to the boxes. Here's what they look like-- And there you have it. Hope you like them when you get them, Eric. ~C

Glad ya'll dig my handy work. I had fun with this one and pretty much everything came out perfectly. No troubles at all. I usually have at least ONE snag with every project, but I guess the book gods were with me on this one. :-)
Thanks for the compliments. :-)

Wow. You need to give classes. I would love to be able to do that.

Wow. You need to give classes. I would love to be able to do that. But, if I taught people how to do it, nobody would pay me to do it any more! hahaha Kidding. The idea has been brought up before, I'm not sure if I'm up for that or not. I've given pointers and all, it just gets time consuming. I'm sure you could imagine. ~C

Thanks!!! I'm glad you guys like 'em. I'm pretty sure Eric will love them once they arrive. That is, if somebody in Customs doesn't fall in love with them fist! lol
